Hiking Trails

Vroman’s Nose

A prominent landmark overlooking the beautiful and fertile Schoharie Valley, Vroman’s Nose is an easy hike, very rewarding and great place for picture taking in every season! There is easy parking with the Trail Head clearly marked just off the parking area.

Minekill Falls

Hiking trails, an olympic sized pool, professional disc golf course, and trout stocked fishing are just a few of the things you can do at this amazing park. The 80 foot falls through a narrow gorge is quite picturesque!

Hunter-Westkill Wilderness

The 19,250-acre Hunter-West Kill Wilderness in the Catskill Forest Preserve is a high elevation east-west ridge that lies between the West Kill Creek to the north and the Esopus Creek to the south. A remote, mountainous location.

Windham-Blackhead Range

The 18,000-acre Windham-Blackhead Range Wilderness is in the northeastern part of the Catskill Forest Preserve. The unit contains some of the highest terrain in the Catskills, including 13 peaks over 3,000 feet in elevation.

Slide Mountain Wilderness

Slide Mountain is the highest peak in the Catskills at 4,190 ft. It’s marked by the remains of a former firetown. The park encompasseses more than 47,500 acres and is the largest and most popular wilderness area in the Catskill Forest Preserve. Extensive foot trails provide access to the remote interior, often climbing over lofty peaks with spectacular views.

Big Indian Wilderness

One of our favorites, the 33,500-acre Big Indian Wilderness area contains the longest stretch of trail through uninterrupted virgin forest in the Catskills. The 30 miles of trail traverse a rugged, mountainous landscape offering numerous opportunities for solitude.

 

Farm Stands & Markets

Barber’s Farm Stand

Six generations of Barbers have farmed land in the heart of the Schoharie Valley. Our go to for incredible produce, and their (seasonal) greenhouse is amazing! Stocked with every vegetable and flower you might want to add to your own garden.

Heather Ridge Farm

Carol and John raise Pigs, Goats, Lamb, Cows and Chickens and can also keep you warm during Schoharie County winters with there line of Alpaca textiles. The cafe is open weekends and occasionally has live music. Simply the best!

The Carrot Barn

The Carrot Barn houses a variety of specialty goods along with produce. They have a full line of grocery items, most of which are local. And if you get there before Brian, there may even be a few Apple Cider Doughnuts left…

Buck Hill Farm

A great weekend brunch spot, Buck Hill Farm is one of the regions great maple syrup producers. A long family history with great care looking sustainably into the future!

Phoenicia Farmer’s Market

A newer farmers market in the heart of the Catskills. Outdoors June - October, with winter hours and pick-up on Sundays. Check out their FB page for the 4-1-1.

 

Fermenting Friends

Wayward Lane

Not only were our friends at Wayard Lane instrumental in helping us get up and running, they also make really good beer. Drinking those beers in their restored 1800’s hop house is a pretty great way to spend an afternoon.

Rockland Upstate

Rockland Cider Works sits on beautiful farmland located in our sister town of Gilboa. In addition to their line of ciders, you’ll find some other local brews on tap. You can even check out the Gilboa Fossil Museum on your way.

Scrumpy Ewe

Scrumpy Ewe Cider is an independently-run farm cidery that grows and ferments a variety of European, heirloom and modern cider apples in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains of Schoharie County.

Rev Spirits

Our fermenting friends at Rev Spirits focus on natures bad-ass pollinator, the honey bee. Raw local honey and time-honored distilling methods create rich, finely crafted spirits. They are also host to the Jefferson Farmer’s Market on Saturdays.

West Kill Brewing

Sitting on an historic 127 acre dairy farm, West Kill Brewing reflects the great place it was born. With a focus on locally grown and foraged ingredients and a soft spot for history, they brew beers that are as fascinating in origin as they are delicious.

Subversive

Another true farmhouse brewery located in the historic Village of Catskill,NY, Subversive Malting + Brewing is among a handful of breweries that produce their own malts using the traditional craft of floor malting.
